Bandcamp takes 15% of a digital sale and 10% of a physical sale, plus separate payment processing fees. The digital share falls to 10% after $5,000 in sales, and stays there only while you have at least $5,000 in sales over the past 12 months. This is not a permanent lifetime-sales discount. These are Bandcamp’s published fees, checked on September 11, 2026.
What comes off a $10 album sale?
For a $10 digital album paid by credit card, the standard platform share is $1.50. Bandcamp’s published card processing rate adds $0.52, leaving $7.98 before any payout fee, tax or collection-society deduction. On the reduced 10% digital tier, the same example leaves $8.48.
The processing rate is not a universal 3–5% plus $0.30. Bandcamp’s digital processing schedule lists these rates for transactions of $8.07 or more:
- Credit card: 2.2% + $0.30.
- PayPal: 1.9% + $0.30.
- Gift card: 2.9% + $0.30.
- Below $8.07: an alternate rate of 5% + $0.05.
Bandcamp also lists a PayPal bulk-payout fee of 1%, capped at $1 per payout. Rates can vary with location and payment method; check the transaction detail in your account for the actual charge.
Physical goods and other deductions
The 10% share on physical goods excludes shipping and tax from its calculation. Processing remains separate. Collection-society deductions can also apply to covered works, depending on the fan’s location. For higher-priced items, Bandcamp normally applies its share to the first $100; see the full fee rules for the quantity and additional-contribution details.
What changes on Bandcamp Friday?
On designated Bandcamp Fridays, the platform waives its revenue share within the stated Pacific Time window. Processing fees remain. In the $10 credit-card example, that means $9.48 before the other possible deductions above. Check Bandcamp’s calendar before scheduling a release; the waiver does not apply every Friday.
Bandcamp versus Played: include the subscription
Played charges 0% platform commission on music sales, but it requires a paid plan: Artist is $12.99/month, Pro $19.99 and Label $29.99. Fans pay through your payment link, so your provider’s fees still apply. Merch is not available on Played yet. This comparison is for digital music.
Assume a $10 sale through your own provider costs 2.9% + $0.30. You have $9.41 left before the Played subscription. If that is your only sale of the month, subtracting the $12.99 Artist plan leaves −$3.58. At ten such sales, you have $81.11 after the plan, versus $79.80 on Bandcamp’s standard tier before its payout and other possible deductions.
Try your monthly sales volume

- $79.80
- Played after fees and Artist plan
- $81.11
Illustration: $10 digital releases, standard 15% Bandcamp share and its published 2.2% + $0.30 card rate. Played uses your entered rate + $0.30 per sale and the $12.99 monthly Artist subscription. Excludes taxes, refunds, currency conversion, collection-society deductions and Bandcamp payout fees. Actual provider rates vary.
The assumed direct-provider rate is an illustration, not a Played payment rate. Under those assumptions the Artist plan overtakes the standard Bandcamp tier at ten $10 sales per month. At lower volume, or on Bandcamp’s discounted tier, the result changes. Neither option guarantees an audience or a sale.
Annual Played subscriptions cost $129, $199 and $299, paid upfront and renewed yearly until cancelled. Do not compare an annual monthly equivalent with a month-to-month bill without accounting for that commitment. Compare current Played plans and billing terms.
Choose for the way you sell
Bandcamp’s percentage model avoids a required Artist subscription and provides its existing marketplace. Played combines a direct storefront with included cover art, mastering and fan-email export. Artist subscribers can buy sync pitches; Pro includes 3 each month and Label 10, with no placement guarantee. The useful comparison is your expected sales volume, your payment costs and the features you will actually use.
