Your guide to setting up, publishing and managing music on Played.
Label costs $29.99/month or $299/year. It includes your music storefront, track and release management, direct selling, creative tools, and 3 included credits per month. Your plan includes 10 sync pitches per calendar month. View Billing for your own current access and balance.
View your plan →Open Roster. Your plan has 10 artist seats and 3 team seats; outstanding invites also use seats. Create a managed artist if you will run their profile and catalogue. Select Manage to upload, edit, replace or delete their tracks, set their payout link and build releases. Make sure the correct artist is selected when using the main uploader.
Open roster →A managed artist is a profile the label controls. An invited artist signs into their own account and controls their own catalogue; roster membership does not give the label permission to edit it. Handing over a managed profile gives the artist control, so direct label editing ends. Team seats provide shared roster visibility; they do not automatically grant every owner-only action. Accepted artist roster members are covered while the label has an active Label plan.
Yes. The track picker includes public tracks from artists you currently manage as well as your own. The application and allowance belong to the label account, and notifications go to the submitting account. Claimed/invited artists control and pitch their own recordings. Read the brief and confirm you hold the required rights before applying.
Browse a brief, read its music and rights requirements, then submit your recording and pitch. Watch Your applications and Sync Studio for status. Prepare the requested review file and clearance information in round two. Round three opens only after the exact recording is accepted. Follow the delivery specifications for that brief. Selection for review is not a placement or guaranteed payment. The paid lifetime editor is a separate purchase, not a requirement to create the original pitch.
View applications →Open Dashboard → Upload. Choose one audio file, wait for the audio check to finish, enter a title and price, then confirm that you hold the commercial rights. Select Public to publish now, or leave it off to save a draft. Finish by selecting the save/publish button. Choosing a file alone does not create a track. Repeat for each song.
Upload music →Use WAV, MP3, FLAC, M4A, AIFF or OGG, up to 200 MB per file. On iPhone, save your export in Files (On My iPhone or iCloud Drive), select the audio field, then Choose File / Browse. Download cloud files to the phone first if they are unavailable. MP4/MOV videos, images and documents are not music uploads. Export audio from your editor; changing the filename is not conversion. Files are checked in the browser and again on the server.
Keep the page open while uploading and checking. If it fails, check your connection and choose the same file again. Your track appears only after you save its details. Check Drafts and the selected artist if it is missing. Dashboard may offer Recover uploads for audio previously uploaded but never saved. Recovered drafts still need your title, price and rights confirmation before publication.
Open the track editor in Dashboard (or Roster → Manage artist → Edit for a managed artist). Under Recording, choose replacement audio, wait for validation, confirm its rights and select Replace audio. The track keeps its page, artwork and price. Turn off Public and save to hide it temporarily. Expand Delete this track and confirm to remove it permanently. Active sync pitches protect the recording from replacement or deletion until they close. Existing purchase files stay unchanged; older files needed for those orders are retained.
It writes suggested track descriptions, tags and a short bio from the title and notes you provide. It does not copy, duplicate or replace your recording. Review the text, copy what you want and paste it into your track or profile editor, then save.
Write descriptions & tags →Upload and save the tracks first. Open Releases, create an album or EP, add its details and price, then assign your tracks and their order. Check both the release and its tracks are public before sharing. Labels do this in the managed artist’s Releases section.
Manage releases →Set your payout/buy link and the track or release price. Played takes 0% platform commission; your payment provider may charge fees. Where Played’s artist-confirmed download flow is used, check the actual payment in your provider before approving a buyer’s reference in Orders. A reference alone is not proof of payment. Approved purchases receive access to their saved files. If your external shop handles checkout and delivery, set up delivery there and explain it clearly to buyers.
Review orders →Upload music only when you hold every right needed to publish, distribute and sell it. Audio format validation cannot prove authorship or licensing. Check the terms for your tools, samples, collaborators and compositions. Sync briefs may impose additional rights or AI restrictions; read each brief before pitching.
Open Billing for your active plan, credit balance and subscription controls. Monthly sync pitch allowances reset at the start of the calendar month in UTC. A credit can fund an extra pitch once the included allowance is used. Creative cover, writing and mastering tools are included with paid access and have fair-use hourly limits. Check Billing for the entitlement that applies to your account, including any legacy allowance.
